DO YOU WANT TO BE A NON-SMOKER?

The first step to becoming a non-smoker is wanting to be free from the smoking habit.

If you have been to the doctors and they have told you that if you don't free yourself from this habit, then your life will be shortened considerably,

if a loved one has asked you to stop because they don't like it, but you still enjoy being a smoker and it's not really your choice to give up,

then it's not you that is making the decision to become smoke free.

Hypnosis is not a magic spell that is cast, or the hypnotist that makes you do something that you don't want to do.

 

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is something that we all experience naturally on a day to day basis. It is the same as when you watch a film and get so emotionally involved in what you are watching that you may cry at the sad parts and laugh along with the lighter moments.

It's the same as when you are driving while your mind is on other things, and when you reach your destination, you don't remember most of the journey.

Have you ever been day dreaming and you have been startled when someone says something and you didn't realise they were there?

What is it that is happening to us when we know that we have to have a difficult conversation with someone? We run though it in our minds before we see the person, and if the conversation in our mind didn't go well, we may be angry at that person before we've started talking to them.

With the use of hypnosis, together we can use the mind to access inner resources to create helpful behaviours, but the mind will reject any unwanted attempts at change, this is the reason that YOU have to be the one that wants the change.

 

IF HYPNOSIS ISN'T MIND CONTROL, HOW IS IT BETTER THAN WILL POWER?

The reason will power doesn't work is because it is "state dependant". What I mean by this is, when we are in a positive state (confident, energetic, happy, powerful etc), our will power is good and we have the mental strength to resist temptation.

Unfortunately, when we are in a negative state (tired, bored, sad, lonley etc), our will power abandons us.

As humans, we have the ability to learn things through repetition and when we have learned something to the point where we no longer have to think about doing it, then it's almost like a part of us is created that runs that behaviour automatically. You may hear people say, "I want to stop smoking, but it's like a part of me just keeps lighting up the cigarettes." the automatic behaviour can sometimes feel out of our control.

With hypnosis it is possible to distract this part and give it something more beneficial to do. When it is doing something else that benefits your life, it will be easy and painless, you will simply walk away from this habit and the only thing you will notice is how good you feel.
